A common misconception about design is that color is the only way you can bring visual interest to a space. Using textures along with a neutral palette can be very eye catching and visually stimulating. Some of our favorite materials to use when adding visual "texture" to a space are natural stone, wood, fur details and fabrics.
Using a natural stone like marble or limestone or wood brings a natural element to the space. These materials innately have a design that draws your eye to it and it's a great way to bring a bit of the outdoors inside.
Faux fur pieces bring a soft and cozy feel to the space, making it warm, approachable and inviting. Rugs also add interest, especially when they are unique in shape like the cow hide rug pictured above.
Mixing the fabrics in a room create dimension in a space. Things like leather or wool make a space more intimate, while linen and and satin open up a room. The details on upholstered pieces like nail heads on a leather couch or a basket woven chair add lots of visual interest to the space without adding color.
